My Dad designed a garden that flowers all year long. Vancouver Island, Canada is in the Pacific-Northwest rain forest. These photos are from the end of April. Nick’s Garden

My son's favourite garden belongs to our Burning Man camp mate, Nick. Since he lives in the Los Angeles area where water is scarce, he has been trying to establish native plants. Just so you know when they flower - the photos were taken near the end of March. Fairy Duster Fairy Duster close … [Read more...]

Penguin’s List of Strong Women

Why aren't women's accomplishments heralded? Who would you have on a list of strong women? I only had five on my initial list. So I asked my friends. Some of the women they suggested, I didn't know of. So I looked them up and I present them to you here. Here is my list ordered by date of birth. … [Read more...]

Black Rock City Animal Control

With so many fun and interesting things happening all week long in Black Rock City, how do you choose what to do? Some people are philosophically opposed to planning any agenda. They prefer to just see what magically appears to them. A variation on the whole "the Playa will provide" concept which … [Read more...]

Time Management and Burning Man

Impossible. Playa Time takes over as soon as you leave Reno. You no longer have control over how long anything will take.  In 2013 the line was stopped all the way back at Pyramid Lake. So we were happy this year that getting to the playa was quick. We had already lost a day due to the RV dying. … [Read more...]

10 Things Burners Want to Do When They Travel

This web site will be about "burner travel". No definition exists for what that means. Here is a short list of some of the things that I think it entails. If you think I've missed one then let me know in the comments. The bus photo above is from the party that exploded on Gate Road when Burning Man … [Read more...]

Countdown to Burning Man 2015

On Facebook some of my burner friends are stating the number of days remaining until Burning Man. The countdown is given on the front page of the Burning Man web site. I used to be like that. Living for the week in the desert. In a way it's kind of a sad way to live. It isn't living in the present. … [Read more...]

Burner Travel

This web site is dedicated to attendees of Burning Man and regional burns around the world.  These participants who build Black Rock City in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada are called "burners". If you're not a burner or "one of us" then you might have a distorted view of the event. Partially this … [Read more...]

Who is Penguin Wanderlust?

Carolyn Pullman, aka Penguin Wanderlust, is a traveller who loves to explore and experience new adventures. More of a country mouse than a town mouse discovering gardens is a favourite pastime. The plants differ so widely depending on the part of the world and the climate.

Festivals and camping are also big draws. She is a burner who has been to 25 burns around the world including Burning Man 7 times (2009-2014, 2016) and 18 regional burns including Otherworld (BC, Canada), Recompression (BC, CA), Burn in the Forest (BC, CA), Freezer Burn (Alberta, Canada), Critical Northwest (WA, USA), T-Bois Blues Festival and Burning Bayou Village (LA, USA), BEquinox (CA, USA), The Borderland (Sweden), and Second Life (official online burn).
