Oklahoma Penguins

My Cloud Shadows road trip took us through Oklahoma. We'd never been to this state before. We came up from Louisiana via Denison, Texas. Our primary tourist destionation was the Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks. We arrived late at night so just bedded down in the RV at the Walmart. The Google My Maps … [Read more...]

New Mexico

As part of my Salt road trip to the Grand Canyon, I wanted to revisit Taos, New Mexico. I had attended a TurtleWeavers women's writing workshop there in about 1999. It had been held at San Geronimo Lodge on the outskirts of town. I had wanted to go to Taos for a long time because that is where … [Read more...]

Kansas Without Tornadoes

Kansas Without Tornadoes

I drove through Kansas to bring my little RV from Louisiana to Vancouver Island. It was tornado season in Tornado Alley. Population is low because of the annual threat. Often I was the only vehicle on the roads throughout those states. Tornado clouds hung in the sky as we dodged bad weather. Strong … [Read more...]

Lamplighting at BRC, Critical NW, & Second Life

Lamplighting at Burning Man is a fun thing to do. The Lamplighters are the longest running performance art at Burning Man. I like being a lamplighter. In 2009 after lamplighting in the desert I became the Keeper of the Lamps for the online regional Burning Life in Second Life. In 2010 I became … [Read more...]

Julian Apples

Julian Apples

Burner friends, that I met at BEquinox, told me about Julian, CA which is known for its apples. What surprised me was the transition from desert to a pleasantly forested valley. Parking an RV is a little problematic in this extremely hilly tourist town. This view is near the Julian Pioneer Museum … [Read more...]

I is for Idaho

After I bought my brother's 22' RV in Louisiana for going to Burning Man, I had to get it home to Vancouver Island. The way home took me through Idaho. I was going to pass right by where my long term friend, Cherie, lived. The Google My Maps is Idaho Map My grandfather was from Boise, … [Read more...]

Hackney Wicked Festival in Hackney Wick, London, England

Having met some British burners at The Borderland in Sweden, I joined them in the London area called Hackney Wick. The link to the Google My Maps is: Map of England An art festival called "Hackney Wicked" was on and some art studios were open to the public. There was a festival area with … [Read more...]

Gotland and Fårö – Swedish islands

As part of my new career as a travel writer, going to visit relatives in Scotland was a high priority. I booked a return flight to Glasgow. As a bit of an adventure I also decided to attend The Borderland. It's the Scandinavian Burning Man regional event. In July 2014 it was held in a rock quarry on … [Read more...]

Desert Flower

Desert Flower

Who doesn't love a brightly coloured desert flower? Against the sand coloured background they stand out vividly. I visited the deserts in March and April last year. The coordinator of the life drawing drop-in in Joshua Tree, told me "The desert is the most verdant it's been in years." It was the … [Read more...]

Who is Penguin Wanderlust?

Carolyn Pullman, aka Penguin Wanderlust, is a traveller who loves to explore and experience new adventures. More of a country mouse than a town mouse discovering gardens is a favourite pastime. The plants differ so widely depending on the part of the world and the climate.

Festivals and camping are also big draws. She is a burner who has been to 25 burns around the world including Burning Man 7 times (2009-2014, 2016) and 18 regional burns including Otherworld (BC, Canada), Recompression (BC, CA), Burn in the Forest (BC, CA), Freezer Burn (Alberta, Canada), Critical Northwest (WA, USA), T-Bois Blues Festival and Burning Bayou Village (LA, USA), BEquinox (CA, USA), The Borderland (Sweden), and Second Life (official online burn).
